This timely session explores the definition of the social determinants of behavioral health via presentations addressing the "built environment," natural disasters, childhood poverty and racially based stigma. The session will end with a review of national 'action items' under consideration by APHA and the Mental Health Section.
Session Objectives: Identify the components of resilience that activate in the face of natural disaster. Discuss the built environment as a social determinant of mental health.Identify needs for stigma reduction across culturally-diverse groups.Analyze successful features and challenges of a city-led initiative to integrate mental health services in primary care settings for young children in disadvantaged neighborhoods
