Masculinity: The impact on health decision making
Masculinity: The impact on health decision making
Tuesday, November 18, 2014: 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Oral
Regardless of age males and females view health and medical visits in different ways. Some men take the approach of “I feel fine, so why should I go see a doctor?” That’s an attitude that has somewhat changed, but we have a long way to go. What are the generational and traditional and evolving attitudes males exhibit towards health care encounters? How do their views of masculinity change over the lifespan? How does it develop as they move through various relationships in their lives?
Session Objectives: Describe what young men perceive as "masculinity" and how it affects their attitude towards their future health.
Discuss the role masculinity plays in addressing health conditions young men encounter.
