Public Health Resources and Tools for Systems Transformation
Tuesday, November 18, 2014: 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM
Oral
Throughout the country, states are transforming their health systems, and this gives public health departments and practitioners a tremendous opportunity. The Affordable Care Act not only increases access to insurance and changes the way health care is paid for, it also emphasizes prevention and healthy living. This system transformation presents an opportunity and a challenge to public health. On the one hand, public health’s specialization in prevention and improving population health means it can make a large positive contribution. It also runs the risk of being left behind, however. This session features resources public health practitioners can use to inform themselves about system transformation and planning tools that can help users adapt to the changes taking place.
Session Objectives: Identify resources public health practitioners can use to learn more about health system transformation.
Describe the technical and adaptive challenges to public health practitioners posed by health system transformation.
Discuss ways public health can successfully integrate into system transformation.
