“It takes a village to raise a child” is as true today as it was in the past. But the “village” today needs to be defined in very local terms as well as global terms. The changing dynamics of globalization has implications for women, children and families in every country. The rapidly emerging use of social media, along with changes in how resources are used across the globe, has widened disparities in outcomes for women, children and families. Advocacy at the local, national and global levels is needed to assure that the needs of women and children are included in policy decisions at all levels. The health of women and children are a major component of the health of the entire community. Focusing on keeping them healthy, safe and happy is the best way to improve the social and economic health of a society.

Session Objectives: 1. Identify three challenges to overcoming the barriers that result in the exclusion of women and children in critical policy decisions at the local, national, and/or global level 2.Identify at least one approach for ensuring that the needs of women and children are prioritized in critical policy decisions at the local, national, or global level
