New Directions for Quality Improvement
This session will address the importance and value of quality improvement in public health organizations and will provide attendees with a snapshot of current initiatives for quality improvement in public health at the state and local levels. The panel will take different perspectives on quality improvement and quality assurance given their roles in different organizations, but will emphasize the commonalities of quality improvement efforts and emphasize the relationship of quality improvement to organizational performance. The session will address successes, barriers and challenges to implementation of quality improvement efforts, and will provide attendees with strategies, tools and techniques for public health organizations to consider as they seek to move ahead in embracing quality improvement.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to: 1. Understand the importance and value of quality improvement initiatives in public health organizations and the relationship of QI efforts to organizational performance. 2. Demonstrate an understanding of current state and local approaches for implementing QI in public health organizations. 3. Identify successes, barriers and challenges to addressing quality improvement efforts in public health organizations. 4. Understand the relevance of and linkage between quality initiatives in the private sector and those within public health, and identify tools and techniques that can be applied in public health settings.
