This session underscores the impact of social determinants and trauma on the mental health of ethnic populations - and also addresses strength-based "self-help" approaches that can be used by people to build their resilience in the face of challenging circumstances.
Session Objectives: Describe mediating factors in the relationship between acculturative stress and depression. Describe theoretical processes that contribute to increases in discrimination by race and ethnicity and implications for mental health. Identify interventions and strategies to promote and support the mental health of Latino populations at risk for trauma, discrimination and poverty.
