Global Health I: Healthy Outcomes in Unlikely Places

This session will provide attendees with information on nursing practice, health outcomes and research in different parts of the world that will help nurses in the US learn about cultural competency in practices. The practices and research studies to be discussed include diabetes self-care in Uganda, sex gender-based violence in eastern Congo, multicultural screening and assessment of immigrants in the US, health status of coffee farmer works in rural Nicaragua, and a project to bridge peace in Israel. Attendees will be challenged to learn nursing practice and research projects in these countries.
Session Objectives: Discuss nursing practices, health outcomes and research in different countries. Compare and contrast nursing care in the US with countries. Discuss ways that international experiences enable nurses to integrate cultural competence in practices.
