Healthiest Nation in a Generation: Linking Science and Policy

APHA has set its sights on creating the healthiest nation in one generation. By 2030, APHA will need to know if the United States has met this vision. This jointly sponsored session by APHA Science and Executive Boards is designed to assist the APHA’s strategic planning process. This session compares the current health status of the US population with other high- income countries and discusses state and local interventions to improve population health for identification of key science and policy priorities that afford health to everyone and address an overarching 2020 Healthy People goal of achieving health equity .
Session Objectives: Describe reasons for the health disadvantage of the United States compared with high-income countries.
Identify at least three scientific priorities essential in monitoring the progress of the health of the nation as the United States moves in global health ranking.
Identify at least three policy recommendations for moving the United States toward the healthiest nation. 4. Identify an individual action that you can take to support policy recommendations.
