The purpose of this session is to better understand the causal pathways of varying contextual factors for rural populations, in order to design and implement interventions in rural communities. Audience members will also learn about the impact that social networks within a community have on rural health outcomes. This session will allow in-depth insight into the functions of rural public health and future progression of studies devoted to reducing health disparities in rural areas.
Session Objectives: Identify contextual factors at the intrapersonal, interpersonal, school, and community level that influence rural adolescents. Explain how social support and community networks shape perceptions and impact health outcomes and can improve designs of community-based interventions. Describe the impact of rural community engagement in the development of alternatives to improve their health and well-being.
