The purpose of this session is to better understand what steps can be taken by the government to use its purchasing power to promote behavior change, as well as, how other mechanisms can improve population health. The audience will learn about how having health behavior data at the census tract level can fill gaps for public health research and programs. This session will also highlight the importance of evidence-based programs into school settings as a strategy to improve population health disparities. A strong emphasis on healthy eating and behavior changes will be present during this session.
Session Objectives: Describe government's role as a market power in changing how healthy foods are offered on the marketplace.
Explain the benefit of use of social marketing data to identify and influence modifiable risk factors.
Identify the variablility of health behaviors among geographical areas.
