Innovations in research, interventions, and workforce training with Latino populations

Roundtable
The significant growth of the Latino population in the U.S., health inequities and the recognition of the need to better prepare the public health workforce to deliver effective prevention interventions with Latino populations require innovative community-engaged approaches. Presenters will discuss programs to enhance community-academic partnerships and prevention interventions that engage diverse Latino communities in health promotion efforts. The issues discussed in this session are timely and relevant in the context of the prevention efforts to be implemented under the Affordable Care Act and the growing recognition of the importance of preparing a public health workforce in addressing health inequities. The goal of this roundtable is to stimulate further research and intervention that employs community-based strategies to improve the health of Latino populations.
Session Objectives: By the end of this roundtable, participants will be able to: 1) Describe strategies for forming successful community-academic partnerships to enhance Latino health, 2) Identify elements of approaches that integrate community engagement and training of public health professionals to work with Latino populations, and 3) Discuss innovative community-based prevention approaches in diverse Latino communities.
