Reflections on the structure of the History project from the academic point of view. Introduction to the utility and critical appraisal aspects of the APHA History Project How the historian views the diversity of primary and secondary material and media that will form the basis for evolving a synthesis of these diverse elements.

Learning Objectives:
Describe the need for the Update of APHA History from the professional historians views. Explain the challenge of the diversity of material and media that will be organized. Discuss the several priorities and lessons useful to undertake the critical appraisal and synthesis that form the basis of the History Project.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: As a panelist I will provide the prospective of my position as Contributing Editor (History) for the American Journal of Public Health with my focus on articles relating to public health history and its relevance to the Association. I also serve as an Advisor to the APHA History Project and hold a teaching research position as Professor of History at the University of Rochester.
