Strengthening the Evidence Base: Linkages between the Conceptual Framework, The Community Guide, and Healthy People 2020

Wednesday, November 6, 2013 : 9:10 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

Shawna Mercer, MSc, PhD, The Community Guide, CDC, Atlanta, GA
This presentation will discuss key components of how The Guide to Community Preventive Services (The Community Guide) seeks to build an evidence base that addresses the needs of real world decision makers. It will also describe how the Conceptual Framework interfaces with The Community Guide by identifying practices worthy of further development and evaluation, with the hopes that some of these practices will eventually have enough evidence to enable them to be evaluated within the Community Guide process. Finally, the presentation will indicate how Healthy People 2020 is using elements of the Framework to assist in classify existing evidence that can be used to help achieve Healthy People 2020 Goals and Objectives. Linking these resources uses public health improvement principles to actively nurture and grow the evidence base for effective public health practice.
