Performance Measurement and Performance Management For Substance Abuse Treatment
Performance measures offer the potential to be powerful tools in states’ efforts to improve the quality of care for individuals with substance use disorders. The goal of any performance measurement plan includes the generation of data that can be used for quality improvement of the services offered, monitoring outcomes, and providing accountability. This session provides overviews of performance measurement for substance abuse treatment; specific measures developed by the Washington Circle and adopted by the National Committee for Quality Assurance in 2004; the National Outcome Measure system being initiated by SAMHSA; information to help States develop, initiate or enhance a performance management process; and a description of Oklahoma’s use of data to calculate performance measures and apply them for quality monitoring and improvement.
