Enhancement of Cultural Competency of Health Workers
This poster session will spotlight papers which explore the idea of cultural competence, study aspects of the health and health care system related to cultural competency, and examine cultural variables related to successful prevention programs.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to:1) Describe ways of creating a culturally competent environment, services, and work force, 2) Define steps to providing linguistic access to services, 3) Compare the constructs of cultural competence and cultural sensitivity. 4) List required characteristics for successful program development regarding a child obesity camp program. 5) Discuss the problem of the insufficient supply of minority physicians in California. 6) Describe how cultural competency among health providers can reduce health disparities and improve patient outcomes. 7) Assess evidence on the effectiveness of cultural competency training programs on individual and or organizational performance.
