Health and Human Rights of Alaska Native Elders
The intersection of health status and human rights for Alaska Native Elders has both historical and present day aspects. This session will focus on the impact of three areas of import for this group: the historical and cultural trauma of the boarding school and current reiterations in assisted living arrangements; the effects of health care delivery on indigenous elders; and culturally appropriate ways of talking about elder abuse in the Alaska Native context. The human rights implications of these issues will be discussed.
