Health Education for the Aging Consumer
Public health and health care systems increasingly must respond to the specific needs of older adults, and health education and health promotion strategies must be adapted for this population. The speakers in this session will describe particular needs of older adults that present challenges to health educators and describe interventions designed to meet these needs. In addition, speakers will discuss specific health issues, such as vaccination and brain health, that are of particular concern for the aging population.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the impact of the growing older adult population on health communication activities;
  2. Explain the key elements used in the creation of a health education strategy for older adults; and
  3. Identify specific health education interventions designed to address the needs of aging and older adults.
