Session: Population, Family Planning and Reproductive Health Roundtables
4233.0: Tuesday, November 9, 2004: 2:30 PM-4:00 PM
Roundtable
Population, Family Planning and Reproductive Health Roundtables
This roundtable session includes a mix of miscellaneous topics relevant to leaders in the population, family planning, and reproductive health fields. These include: perceptions of the April 25 March for Women’s Lives, the American Medical Women’s Association’s Reproductive Health Initiative (RHI) Model Curriculum, University of Michigan research on careers in international reproductive health, the Population Pioneers Project, and the Population Digital Library. The latter two topics should prove to be useful information sources for people seeking information on the history of the field and its leaders, and on broader research topics in general. The remaining five tables in the session all relate to issues on the new abortion laws in Nepal. Those tables give a rich overview of the process to overturn what had been one of the most restrictive laws in the world, and the effectiveness of new interventions that have been implemented as a result.
Learning Objectives: By the end of each roundtable session, participants will: 1) gain an overview of the main issues surrounding the topics discussed, including: information sources on population history and current research, the April 25 March for Women’s Lives, improving reproductive health education in medical schools, preparing for careers in international RH, and abortion laws in Nepal 2. have the opportunity to ask in-depth questions of presenters to gain a greater technical understanding of the issues involved.
