With increasing competition for federal budget dollars, the escalating federal budget deficit and efforts by current Administration to streamline and reduce the size of federal commitments to the low-income uninsured, state Medicaid and S-CHIP programs have in the last year undergone reductions in funding, benefits and beneficiaries. Some states in response to budget deficits have simply reduced programs and others have considered substantial reforms. This session will review and update efforts at the federal level to reduce and transform federal commitments to states for the uninsured and provide some lessons learned from key states attempting to grapple with these federal and state-based pressures. | |||
