Agent Orange, Dioxins and Health II
Current issues of public health importance to Vietnamese living in Vietnam will be covered. A focus will be on health effects of dioxins on Vietnamese and US Vietnam veterans. The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) publications on Veterans and Agent Orange will be described. Health effects of dioxins will be summarized based on current scientific knowledge. New health findings in UA Air Force Vietnam will be described. A review of recent work in Hanoi regarding health will be presented. veterans Dioxin levels in humans and food in Vietnam from Agent Orange and other sources will be presented. Legal approaches to the policy issue of obtaining money damages to Vietnamese who may have been exposed to Agent Orange with its dioxin contamination will be described by lawyers involved in the new law suit by Vietnamese directed against manufacturers of Agent Orange. Lawyers from industry have been invited to present additional perspectives.
Learning Objectives: A. Update knowledge of health effects of Agent Orange and its dioxin contaminant on Vientnamese residing in Vietnam. B. Update of health effects of Agent Orange on the US Air Force sprayers of this compound. C. Learn the newest findings of the NAS literature reviews and interpretations of Agent Orange health effects. D. Understand the policy issues concerning the new Vietnamese lawsuit involving the companies which produced Agent Orange. E. Understand certain health research conducted in Hanoi, Vietnam recently.
