This introduction to the session will describe the PHN Section's Environmental Health Task Force that was established at the APHA 2003 Annual Meeting in San Francisco. It will focus on (a) planned strategies for strengthening the environmental health role and capabilities of public health nurses, including enhancing the PHN Section’s environmental health awareness, expertise, and commitment; and (b) describe the collaborative relationship of the PHN and Environmental Health Sections for sharing expertise, addressing critical issues, and developing joint programs. This partnership can serve as a model for inter-sectional collaboration in APHA and explore broader strategic efforts which can enhance environmental health knowledge and skill in public health nursing.
