This presentation will briefly describe problems women and children are experiencing under the current health care system in the United States. It will describe the Coalition for Labor Union Women (CLUW), an organization which advocates for public policy favorable to women and their families and seeks to empower working women to assert their rights in the workplace, in the labor movement, and in the legislative arena. The presentation will include a discussion of CLUW's support for efforts to build a movement for national health insurance, and for reproductive health, as well as the organization's involvement with a range of public health issues, including efforts to expand Family and Medical Leave, HIV/AIDS prevention. cervical cancer outreach, and contraceptive equity.
