As an Environmental Public Health Tracking Network partner organization, the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) has been working closely with the state health agencies, Environmental Council of the States (ECOS), and National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) to (1) assess state needs and barriers to implementing a national tracking network; (2) identify and share models, best practices, lessons learned, and resources with states that do not have tracking cooperative agreements; and, (3) help bridge the cultural gap between state health and environmental agencies and encourage further collaboration between the two. ASTHO has created a series of case studies examining state efforts in environmental public health tracking and compiled a report documenting state needs and barriers to implementing a tracking network. In cooperation with ECOS, ASTHO has created a primer examining the unique differences that exist between state health and environmental agencies. ASTHO and ECOS has also made site visits to states without tracking grants to bring together staff from the health and environmental agencies to discuss topics related to tracking.
