This presentation will focus on the methodology and results of an initiative to spearhead and implement a a statewide strategy to reduce underage alcohol problems in New Hampshire, undertaken by New Futures a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy organization working to reduce underage alcohol problems and increase access to treatment in NH. The state strategy is modeled to leverage the sound science and best practices based NAS/IOM report on underage drinking released in September 2003. This model is a comprehensive, statewide strategy that identifies multiple initiatives for action with a three year timeframe and provides a framework for partners at the community and state level to engage in reducing underage alcohol problems based on what works in NH. This session will include review of: the logic model used in developing the State Strategy; the key stakeholders critical to the success of the project; the data sources used in identifying the scope and seriousness of underage alcohol problems in the state; the outcomes of a State Strategy Summit; anticipated legislative and administrative rules changes being sought as a part of the State Strategy; and initiatives identified for community level action. Methodology, lessons learned, findings, and progress of this initiative in New Hampshire will be shared with attendees.
