The University of Massachusetts School of Nursing, in collaboration with the School of Public Health/Health Sciences, was funded by the Division of Nursing of HRSA to implement an interdisciplinary MS/MPH program for registered nurses. The program model includes six objectives: program structure; recruitment and retention; academic course of study; relationships with public health agencies; program evaluation; and, dissemination of the program model and outcomes. This presentation will describe the processes used to manage the conflicts and tensions arising from implementation of the first three objectives. Recommendations for alternative interventions will be explored and discussed.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, the participant will be able to:
• Describe the steps in implementing a dual degree program within the university structure.
• Discuss organizational and interpersonal sources of conflict affecting or arising from program implementation.
• Articulate the processes utilized to manage conflicts and tensions related to: program structure; recruitment and retention; and, curriculum development.
