Domestic violence is a pervasive health and social problem in all communities. There have been numerous studies published examining the relationship between domestic violence and health. Domestic violence screening has been mandated in hospital emergency rooms; however, many primary care practice sites have been hesitant to begin incorporating universal screening of women for domestic violence. The authors? 1992 study entitled ?Domestic Violence What Do Nurses Think? found that few nurse practitioners were screening for domestic violence in their practice. As we move to incorporate universal domestic violence screening into primary care practice sites, it necessitates examining the nursing domestic violence literature to identify the ways in which nursing literature addresses domestic violence.
The researchers will present the findings from a study reviewing the nursing literature related to domestic violence from 1990 to 2002. In this presentation, they will discus which journals published violence articles, number of violence related articles published, research focus, methodology, and sample and sample size. These findings will be useful in discussing the future focus of domestic violence research.
