This session will introduce a new public health assessment and monitoring tool: the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS), including providing information on its objectives, sample, content and measurement, multicultural health emphasis, and methods by which data will be disseminated and accessed. CHIS is relevant to public health researchers and professionals nationally because it will provide critically important data on a comprehensive set of public health and access indicators for smaller ethnic minority populations that are seldom adequately included in health surveys and for local areas throughout the state for which estimates have not previously been available. These data will permit public health analysts and researchers to identify health needs of California’s diverse population and measure disparities in health and access to health care. When completed, CHIS will serve as a critical tool for the California Department of Health Services, the California Legislature, and California’s public health and health care communities in planning and policy development for the State of California. CHIS has been developed through an innovative process that involves a broad range of agencies, experts and constituencies | ||||
