Improving Birth Outcomes: Patient- and Systems-Level Interventions

This session will highlight the role of patient-focused group interventions and system innovations in pregnancy outcomes. Patient-focused intervention topics include: examination of the Community Health Worker model for perinatal home visiting, peer postpartum groups in women with Gestational Diabetes, and the effect of number of group prenatal visits on pregnancy outcomes. System innovation topics include: modification of payment structure, data sharing, and utilization of quality improvement to reduce low-risk Cesarean sections, and identification of high-risk perinatal patients by region within states in order to appropriately align care needs and resource expenditures.
Session Objectives: Participants in this session will be able to:
• Understand impact of prenatal and postpartum peer groups on perinatal outcomes
• Identify purpose of perinatal regionalization and use of appropriate metrics
• Describe use and approach of data-driven quality improvement in reduction of Cesarean sections
