Mass media are ubiquitous and reach an exceptionally large number of people every day. Thus, they can potentially have a significant impact on public health. This session features research examining the myriad positive and negative effects media have on health, as well as work identifying strategies that leverage media for health promotion interventions.
Session Objectives: Describe how exposure to positive and negative health information in the media affects health-related outcomes.
Discuss the use of media and technology to improve community health promotion and education
Describe approaches for using media and technology to educate communities about public health and prevention topics.
Identify strategies for intervention when individuals have insufficient access to mediated health information.
