Founded by faculty at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, CYP provides over 40 comprehensive programs to at-risk youth, ages 3-25, living in the Washington Park, Near North/Cabrini Green, and Uptown/Rogers Park neighborhoods, Chicago’s neighborhood where residents are least likely to have access to support.  It works to empower each young person it helps to escape poverty by attaining the skills and degree necessary to attain financial independence, working with them from a young age up through college.  Services provided range from elementary school tutoring to social services to providing access to needed medical care.

Describe different approaches hospitals can use to prevent violence. Define the connection of violence prevention & violence treatment.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am the co-founder of the Chicago Youth Programs (30 years, a youth development organization founded 30 years ago by Northwestern University Medical Students. I have been the principal investigator of multiple grants which evaluate the effectiveness of CYP’s efforts.
