This presentation will focus on building and sustaining a public health approach to gun violence prevention in order to change culture, laws and commercial interests and ultimately reduce gun-related injuries and deaths. Just as we have successfully combated issues such as second-hand smoke, addressing gun violence as a public health issue can have a significant impact on reducing gun deaths and injuries.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am the President of the Brady Campaign & Center to Prevent Gun Violence and I'm one of the foremost leaders in the gun violence prevention movement. I joined Brady in 2012 after co-founding the Center to Prevent Youth Violence in 1998 after my brother was severely wounded in a shooting at the Empire State Building. Under my leadership, Brady utilizes a public health approach including legislative advocacy, legal action and social norm change.
