Active Transportation Education, Encouragement and Health Impacts in Columbus, Ohio

Columbus Public Health has a focus on active transportation for the Plan4Health grant. We are implementing an active commuter program for local businesses with a particular focus on helping businesses apply for the League of American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly Business designation. The City of Columbus is formulating a Multi-Modal Thoroughfare Plan (Connect Columbus) and we are conducting a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) on the plan to ensure that health and social equity are taken into consideration when prioritizing transportation corridors for improvements. Columbus Public Health recently completed a Safe Routes to School Large District School Travel Plan for the Columbus City School District and we are implementing the first year of the plan under the Plan4Health grant.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am the program manager for the Plan4Health grant at Columbus Public Health and previously coordinated a Large District School Travel Plan and an HIA on the travel plan. I have a Masters in City and Regional Planning focusing on non- motorized transportation and GIS. I have worked in active transportation advocacy previous to my position at Columbus Public Health. I recently co-founded a neighborhood advocacy group establishing a bicycle boulevard system in Clintonville, Ohio.
