Monday, November 2, 2015 : 2:43 p.m. - 2:56 p.m.

Oscar Cordon, MD, Mesoamerican Health Initiative, Management Sciences for Health, Guatemala, DC, Guatemala
In January 2015 the Every Woman and Every Child movement presented a draft of a roadmap for updating the Global strategy for Women’s and Children’s and Adolescent health for the Post 2015 Agenda. In that report the movement explained that four years on, the Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s health by mobilizing actors from all sectors to work towards shared goals has demonstrated its worth as a beacon, elevated women’s and children’s health to the top of the political agenda, and guided stakeholders from all sectors towards great progress on women’s and children’s health. They also acknowledged that a renewed Global Strategy to deliver the new SDGs will be a critical tool to continue galvanizing collective and multi-stakeholder partners approaches that was also recognized in the post-2015 agenda and the UN Secretary General Synthesis Report commented at the beginning of this session. This renewed Global Strategy will put more emphasis on cross-sectorial action to ensure the transformational changes that the Secretary General mentioned in his report. Of particular importance will be health, education, and gender equality, amongst others. The inclusion of adolescents’ health is aiming to avoid the fragmentation of funding that affected that population group during the MDGs. This revised strategy will represent one overarching framework and common vision up until 2030. The stakeholders agreed that the global strategy should go from 2016 to 2030 with the first 5-year operational plan, with the aim of launching it in September 2015 in conjunction with the endorsement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
