Global MNCH agenda: What are we missing?

Monday, November 2, 2015 : 3:09 p.m. - 3:22 p.m.

Mary Anne Mercer, DrPH, Heatlh Alliance International, Seattle, WA
Numerous documents have been developed that address the need to continue as well as accelerate improvements in maternal, newborn and child health globally. The need for national commitment, for improved services, for increased funding, and diminishing inequalities in health are all discussed.  What is not addressed?  This presentation will focus on some of the political and economic realities that constrain efforts to produce healthy mothers, infants, and future populations.  These constraints could be addressed by adopting a human rights approach to health policy, countering market-driven approaches, and giving voice to the poorest and most vulnerable populations in addition to finding innovative ways to carry out interventions that have proven effective.

Learning Areas:

Public health or related organizational policy, standards, or other guidelines
Public health or related public policy
