Holistic approach to school safety

Monday, November 2, 2015 : 8:50 a.m. - 9:10 a.m.

Jadine Chou, MBA, Chicago Public Schools, Chicago, IL
Given the range and complexity of the factors that affect the likelihood violence and shape the lives of so many urban youth, no single agency can address this issue on its own. When people work in tandem to create safer communities, they can accomplish ambitious goals and have an impact that no organization could achieve through a stand-alone effort.

This presentation describes a partnership among local public, private and non-profit groups, including the health department, to address violence and improve outcomes across many sectors. Collaboration is vital for young people to be able to learn and succeed in life; multi-sector partnerships are the mechanism for preventing violence, promoting community health, and establishing a cradle-to-career pipeline.
