Black Women’s Health Index: Can We Sell Health?

Monday, November 2, 2015 : 10:50 a.m. - 11:10 a.m.

Linda Blount, MPH, Black Women's Health Imperative, Washington, DC

We in Public Health have not done a good job of selling health to the everyday Black woman.  Perhaps this is because we haven’t understood what health means to Black women. IndexUS: The Black Women’s Health Index, puts the ability to improve health and wellness easily in the hands of women and creates innovative opportunities to invest in program and policy change.

Learning Areas:

Communication and informatics
Implementation of health education strategies, interventions and programs
Public health or related public policy

Learning Objectives:
Identify key perspectives from Black women on what health and wellness mean to them. Demonstrate the impact of IndexUS on programs, policies and messages in three cities. Discuss an investment model that improves the impact of program and policy implementation. Analyze methods for calculating the value of investing in Black women’s health.
