Respectful Maternity Care

Too often, pregnant women seeking maternity care receive varying degrees of ill treatment; from relatively subtle disrespect to outright abuse. The fear of being badly treated and abused in health facilities often holds women back from seeking help.  Medical Aid Films developed this short animated film in collaboration with White Ribbon Alliance to promote Respectful Care.  The film brings to life the seven points of the Universal Rights of Childbearing Women Charter, and will be used for in-service training of health workers in Nigeria and Malawi.

The film follows Aziza, a health worker who is learning about respectful care as she looks after Mama who is giving birth to her baby.  It brings together the input and collaboration of frontline health workers, global expertise in respectful care, animation and voiceover by Zawadi Machibya from the BBC World Service – creating an engaging, story-driven educational tool to inform and inspire people about respectful care.

Demonstrate respectful maternity care following the seven points above.
