Health Disparity Data Tool: An innovative instrument to explore health disparities with DATA2020
The HHS Office of Minority Health, Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion and CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics collaborated on the development of a web-based tool to provide Healthy People 2020 users with summaries of disparities within specific Healthy People 2020 objectives, detailed comparisons by population group for each of the latest data points with available data, and technical information to interpret the data. The disparities data tool allows users to access information on disparities observed among various population groups such as race or ethnicity, socioeconomic status, region, or other population characteristics. The HD tool will initially feature over 100 objectives using data from the National Health Interview Survey which is the principal source of information on the health of the civilian non-institutionalized population of the United States.
This presentation will describe the HD data tool; show how the interactive tool can be used to display certain graphs, charts, tables, and narrative texts that answer certain research questions, and demonstrate how the tool can be used to explore a variety of issues on health disparities among different subpopulations.
