Factors related to the quality of life among Korean American women: Acculturation and personal resources
The study participants were 560 Korean American women (21-64 years) in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area, who completed the study survey in 2011. We used a 26-item version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life-100 (WHOQOL-BREF) for measuring the QOL. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was performed to explore the predictors of QOL, especially the effects of acculturation and personal resources
The mean (Standard Deviation) score of the WHOQOL-BREF was 84.8 (13.2). Both acculturation and personal resources are significantly associated with the QOL, after controlling for age, education, marital status, employment, income and health insurance. Acculturation and personal resources accounted for 20.0% and 13.0% respectively of the variance in the QOL of Korean American Women
Findings suggest the development of interventions to facilitate acculturation adaptation and psychological capital management for promoting the QOL in the future study and practice targeting ethnically minority women.
