Approaches to Qualitative Inquiry

This session is designed to provide students with options for engaging in qualitative research. Using Creswell’s (2007) model of qualitative inquiry and research design, participants will be introduced to phenomenology, ethnography, grounded theory methodology, narrative inquiry, and case studies as approaches for conducting qualitative studies. We will discuss strengths and weaknesses, as well as the similarities and differences of each of the five approaches.

Learning Objectives:
List five approaches to qualitative inquiry. Discuss the procedures inherent in each approach of qualitative inquiry. Compare the similarities and differences among the five approaches of qualitative inquiry.
