The purpose of the overview is to provide information on the basic structure and content of the MEPS survey. The discussion will include the following topics: survey design, sampling, data collection methodology, questionnaires, core content: demographics, health and health insurance status, medical conditions, medical utilization and expenditures as well as employment status. Supplemental questionnaires will be discussed (Self-Administered Questionnaire, Diabetes Care Supplement, and the Cancer Self-Administered Questionnaire) as well. The capabilities and the application process for the AHRQ Data Center will be discussed. Additionally, public use files and publications on the MEPS website will be presented and discussed. This session will facilitate the understanding of the household data collected by MEPS and how to use this data to answer questions related to health policy.
