Using Communication and Marketing Strategies to Create Healthy Places (organized by HCWG)

Individuals’ surrounding environments—in their families, homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, communities, and beyond—have a significant influence on their health and well-being, and creating healthy environments is an important objective of public health professionals. At the same time, the field of health communication and marketing has developed and refined numerous evidence-based strategies for improving individuals’ health beliefs and behaviors. This session explores the intersection between health communication/marketing methods and environmental health topics by showcasing ways that health communication strategies can help to create healthy places and environments.
Session Objectives: Describe how healthy places and environments can be created at all levels of the socio-ecological framework.
Identify how health communication and marketing strategies are being used to create healthy places and environments.
Describe the connection between individual health behaviors and healthy places/environments.
