Oral
When it comes to the nation’s 42 million adolescents, we can all make a difference in their health and healthy development now and into the future. The second decade is the time of life when bodies, minds, and emotions are changing and growing more rapidly than at any time other than infancy, and when guidance and sometimes interventions can really make a difference, particularly for adolescents who may be more vulnerable because of disabilities or life circumstances. Participants at this session will learn about a new effort aimed at putting the teen years on the nation’s agenda as a top priority. Led by the Office of Adolescent Health (OAH) in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), “Adolescent Health: Think, Act, Grow”, also called TAG, is a stakeholder engagement strategy and awareness raising campaign that will serve as a call to action for all who care about young people. TAG offers a set of action-oriented steps developed by a broad group of stakeholders and grounded in science, and TAG seeks the involvement of individuals and organizations in every community. As a leading voice in public health, APHA is uniquely positioned to be a strong partner for TAG. Learn about available resources and how you can play a role in improving adolescent health.
Session Objectives: Learn about key aspects of what it takes to keep adolescents healthy, identify health opportunities of adolescence, and understand the goals and activities of “Adolescent Health: Think, Act, Grow.
