Charlie Branas, PhD , Professor of Epidemiology, University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA
With colleagues at the University of Pennyslvania Urban Health Lab (www.urbanhealthlab.org), the CDC, the NIH, and various municipalities, Dr. Branas has been scientifically investigating a variety of place-based changes to cities, seeking to find high-impact, sustainable solutions that can transform the health and safety of cities.  Through various studies, including randomized trials, his lab has shown that the greening of vacant urban spaces, as well as the remediation of abandoned buildings and other forms of urban blight reduction, are potentially transformative programs for the health and safety of cities.
