Women's Health and Human Rights: Is it A missing Link

This presentation will highlight the links between women's  health and human rights and will discuss why women who make up a large majority of the world’s population are disenfranchised from their human rights. A brief insight into the Millennium Development Goals, Beijing Platform of Action , Post 2015 goals and their role in promoting womens human rights  will also be a part of this presentation. In addition specific examples from various regions will be presented which will focus on the challenges and advances made in improving womens health and their  socio- political staus in society. Gender based violence, socio economic discrimination, place of residence and the influence  these factors have  not only on women's health and well being  but on their  families ,communities and countries  will be discussed. The role of public health professionals, and their crucial role in promoting women's health throughout the lifespan and strategies to make the playing field equal for women and girls and through local activism which can hopefully result in improved global outcomes will conclude this presentation.
