The Alameda County School-Based Behavioral Initiative seeks to strengthen and expand school-based behavioral health practice, finance, evaluation, and policy in Alameda County, California. In partnership with school districts and service providers, and by leveraging local, State, and Federal resources, the Initiative invests over $24 million annually toward school-based behavioral health supports across 18 school districts. In 2010, the Initiative developed and evidence-based practice framework as a foundation for all of our work.

This presentation will describe this framework and how it has created a common set of tools and language that support strategic collaboration between educators, service providers, funders, and evaluators.  The following components will be described: training and technical assistance tools that engage  partners; startegies that can be used by schools, districts, and providers to target improvements in existing school-based behavioral health systems; and an evaluation design that offers stakeholders opportunities to turn results into performance improvement.  Our presentation will profile how our framework aligns with educational and public health models; describe the operational practices that support success,  and how the model has been used over the last four years to launch and sustain the work and increase access to behavioral health care.
