This session focuses on efforts to enhance exclusive breastfeeding. Information is provided related to quality improvement-focused efforts, limiting formula supplementation in hospitals, and the influence of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative.
Session Objectives: Describe how a statewide perinatal quality improvement collaborative can be used to increase rates of exclusive breastfeeding in the early postpartum period.
Discuss how limitations or reductions of formula supplementation among breastfed infants may affect rates and duration of exclusive breastfeeding.
List at least two important things hospitals should consider as they seek designation as a Baby-Friendly hospital.
