Never no more: Cross-cultural examinations of intimate partner violence

Tuesday, November 5, 2013: 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Oral
Intimate partner violence occurs across all cultures. In order to better understand the global impact of intimate partner violence, researchers, educators and health professionals must understand the confounding factors, barriers to services, signs and consequences. In some instances intimate partner violence co-occurs with sexual violence and compounds the impact upon survivors. From Appalachia to Lesotho, the impacts of intimate violence on survivors and their families will be discussed as they relate to social, economic, mental and physical aspects.
Session Objectives: Identify aspects of intimate partner violence; Compare outcomes across populations as they relate to intimate partner violence; and Describe cross cultural trends in intimate partner violence
