Public health strategies for innovative meaningful use

Monday, November 4, 2013

Frederic Grant IV, PhD, MPH, PMP , Public Health Division, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Atlanta, GA
Significant progress is being made regarding the interoperability of electronic health record data between health care providers and public health, but States and jurisdictions have an uncertain vision how to fully leverage this data in a way that will provide an immediate impact and ROI. Stage 3 Meaningful Use regulations are expected to include bi-directional, real time exchange between IIS and EHR systems. Rather than every IIS program developing its own approach to such exchange, the IIS and EHR vendor communities need to work collaboratively to identify consensus approaches. This presentation provides a needed strategic roadmap for public health to realize the low cost, near term advantages of data interoperability in a manner that immediately benefits high value public health programs.
