The presentations of this session are related to various issues related to personal assistance, social support and caregiving for the older adults, including: relationship between older americans act in-home services and low-care residents in nursing homes; community partnerships to implement a stress intervention for African American family caregivers for dementia patients; future competencies needed for the direct care service workforce; role of first generation college students in caring for older relatives, and caregiver burden for an elderly population in são paulo, Brazil.
Session Objectives: 1. To examine the relationship between the proportion of older adults in a state who receive these in-home services and the proportion of residents in nursing homes whose needs could better be served in the community. 2. To produce useful strategies for recruitment and research implementation. 3. To learn what new skills and competencies will be required of DCSW in the near future.
